This course is intended for new users to the Thermo Scientific Orbitrap system. This course covers the fundamentals of mass spectrometry, with emphasis on small molecule accurate mass applications. Users will gain hands-on experience using both ESI and APCI ionization techniques and learn the benefits of accurate mass detection. Course topics include: • Ion trap theory • Orbitrap™ theory • Tuning and calibration • Hands-on APCI and ESI MS • Instrument method development for LC/FTMS • Multi-stage MSn method building • Parallel detection methods • Accurate mass methods • Thermo Scientific Xcalibur software • Basic Thermo Scientific LTQ maintenance
